Rendlesham Forest Parkrun was the latest venue for our RCR takeover event. Having run/volunteered and supported other local parkruns it was decided that Rendlesham would be next on our list.

It just so happened to coincide with the 20th anniversary of Parkrun and was also my 200th run. A double celebration!

The day itself was cool but dry and sunny. Perfect run weather.

I arrived a bit later than planned so had no time for my usual “warm-up” but still in plenty of time to park up and walk to the start line. I could see plenty of purple shirts had arrived so knew I was going to be in good company.

Just before the start I was presented with a sash saying “Marcus’s 200th parkrun” so if nobody knew before then they did now. Nice touch – thanks Teresa. It was then time for the obligatory team photo. I counted over 30 members. Yet another great turnout from the purple army.

So, onto the run itself. The route is a beautiful run through the forest on trail paths. Fine by me as I love a trail run. It’s certainly not a route to try and get your 5km PB due to the terrain and also keeping an eye on the tree routes. But it is the perfect setting for a social run with friends.

Most of us run in small groups or with run buds and all seemed to enjoy it once they’d crossed the finish line. Some even came prepared with a picnic and cake to finish.

As always, parkruns only happen thanks to the volunteers and marshals giving up their own time to make the run happen. The Rendlesham hi-vis heroes were so supportive and encouraging. Thanks guys!

A few of us finished the morning by grabbing coffee and more cake on the way home. A perfect end to a great morning.

I’m already looking forward to the next RCR takeover and here’s to the next 200! 😊
